Thank you for volunteering to help with Interfaith Hospitality Network!
Overnight Host Responsibilities:
1. Arrive at 7:00 PM.
2. Locate your room and make your bed.
3. Meet the guests and be sure they know who you are and where you will
be sleeping. Extra blankets are stored in the cabinet at the end of
the hall.
4. Make sure all of the guests have their lunches made and labeled before
lights out at 10:00.
5. Be available to talk with guests, and to resolve questions or problems.
6. By 9:00 p.m., suggest to parents that children should be getting
ready for bed.
7. By 10 PM, turn out all lights and insist upon quiet, people have
to get up early.
8. If the TV was used, make sure to turn it and the VCR off.
9. Rise at 6:00 AM and begin waking guests by knocking on doors. Do
not enter their rooms uninvited. Saturday morning will be more relaxed
and they’ll sleep in.
10. Knock again on straggler’s doors at 6:15 and 6:30, and be
sure everyone is ready for the van to depart at 7:00 AM. On Saturday,
a later schedule will be followed.
11. Help the breakfast
volunteer (if there is one available), put out breakfast
things. Assist guests in getting their breakfasts they indicated on
the sign-up sheet.
12. Make sure guests are taking lunches with them.
13. Help clean up from breakfast, wash and put breakfast dishes away.
14. Check that guest’s doors are closed. Check that the bathrooms,
hallways and the Church is clean and secure and lights are out.
15. Remove linens from your bed and put in dirty clothes basket. Leave
a clean set of sheets and blankets on the bed for the next night’s
host. The linens are kept in the cabinet at the end of the hallway.
16. Update the Logbook in the cabinet with the evening’s events
and return to cabinet. You shold be done about 7:30AM.

GUIDELINES FOR ALL VOLUNTEERS:
• Enjoy yourself; we are entertaining guests in our Church home.
• Please wear a name tag to make it easier for the guests to
identify you.
• Strictly avoid labeling the guests with terms such as “homeless”
or any other grouping that could be hurtful. Focus on conversations
that pertain to current events, not personal history or current position.
• Be aware of and avoid potential hurtful reminders to the guests
of the things that they do not have.
• The schedule is not intended to be rigid – be flexible
and sensitive to special needs and opportunities.
• If physical violence is threatened, call 911, immediately,
without hesitation.
• If you observe child abuse, you must call 911.
• Do not give money to guests.
• Always follow the Uniform Health Code guidelines.
• Notify the Volunteer Coordinator of any problems or concerns.
• Guests are allowed access to:
• The kitchen
• The washer and dryer
• The Sanctuary
• Royster Hall
• The Library
• The basement sleeping quarters
• The gym
